All BHS Staff,

This year all staff members will be participating in the "Technology Collection 2012." This means that all staff members will be required to turn in checked-out technology equipment at the end of their track. Lucky C-Track teachers (always the guinea pigs for new projects) will be the first to turn in their equipment before they go off track in April. Tracks A and B will do the same in June.

You may be asking, "What do I have to turn in?" The technology equipment includes the following:

This includes laptops and other equipment "belonging to" SLCs, Departments, Offices, etc.

I know that staff members will be concerned about turning in laptops if these devices are used to prepare for the next academic year. Currently, the Technology Committee has decided that staff members will receive back the same laptop they submit. The committee has also been discussing when teachers remaining at Bell can receive back the laptop and other equipment. We are hoping the school can allocate resources (staff, funding, etc.) for these teachers to receive their equipment during the summer break before the start of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Now you may be asking, "Why is this happening?" The reasons are:

  1. Calendar - The change to a traditional calendar presents an opportunity to take a full account of all technology equipment and place these items on a new checkout calendar.
  2. Inventory - Align the checkout and inventory systems used at BHS. The Digital High School Office, Room S4, SLC Leads, and Department Chairs have been checking out equipment to staff members for the last 14 years! Add to that the number of track changes and staff members who have left Bell High School and you can imagine the amount of equipment that we need to track and to make sure remain at Bell.

You are probably now asking, "What should I do to prepare for 'Technology Collection 2012'?"

  1. Back up any data on your laptop. You may use external drives, flash (USB) drives, or your staff server on the BHS network. Room S4 or the Digital High School Office are unable to provide any backup devices. All attempts will be made for you to get back the same laptop you turned in; however, it is always best to back up data regularly and especially in this case.
  2. Turn in any of the above-mentioned equipment as soon as you know you will no longer be using it for the remainder of the academic year.
